Laura Basset, Voice

Laura Bassett is an active vocalist and music educator in New Jersey and the New York area. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Vocal Peformance and Music Education from Carnegie Mellon University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Music Education Degree from Boston University, via the acclaimed BU distance learning/online program.

A versatile, classically trained soprano, Laura's most memorable roles include Lily from "The Secret Garden" with The Theater Company of Hoboken, and Oberto from Handel's "Alcina" at Carnegie Mellon University. Laura is an active soloist throughout New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, performing in solo recitals and providing sacred music in local churches. Laura performed as a guest singer with the Cambridge Singers in Barcelona, Spain, as well as with the choral group Schola Cantorum on Hudson.  

As an educator, Laura specializes in private voice instruction, choral conducting, early childhood music instruction and musical theater. While on faculty in the Mt. Lebanon School District in Pittsburgh, PA, Laura worked for the education department of Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and served as partner teacher and coordinator for a Pittsburgh Opera Outreach Program. Currently, Laura teachers vocal music in the Bayonne Public School District and works as the Vocal Director for the Bayonne High School Drama Society. Laura enjoys teaching private voice to students of all ages, striving to develop well-rounded, confident singers in all styles of voice performance. Working to develop choral music opportunities for students, Laura founded and serves as Artistic Director/Conductor of the Bayonne Community Youth Choir. Laura is proud to share the love of music with the talented members of In The Pocket, and is excited to grow as a performer and educator in NYC and surrounding areas.
